Acupuncture is a therapy that uses natural laws and energetics with the application of needles and pressure to specific “points” on the body. Acupuncture is practiced based on discerning a “pattern of disharmony” and treating accordingly. Acupuncture treats to strengthen the physical body, prevent disease, control pain, and achieve longevity. The goal of acupuncture, as practiced in oriental medicine in general, is not only limited to ridding or relieving symptoms but also to increase both the quality of life and ability to function.

Studies indicate that acupuncture influences the central and peripheral nervous system. Evidence shows it releases endorphins from the brain, which make acupuncture particularly effective in pain control. Among a host of factors, acupuncture affects sugar, cholesterol, and triglyceride levels in the blood, the functioning of the gastrointestinal system and the activity of the endocrine system. Acupuncture works with the body, harmonizing and balancing energy. It improves circulation, reduces inflammation, and allows the body to heal itself more quickly and more completely.

Muscle Activation Technique

Muscle Activation Technique is a specific and unique process for evaluating an individual’s ability to develop efficient muscle contractions. An active body’s performance can be altered when a muscle is too tight or not functioning properly. The Muscle Activation Technique utilizes special training and body knowledge to determine how a muscle is working in regards to the joint it is crossing and the nerves it is using. This process can help balance and restore function in the human body through contractions and stimulation of the muscles.

Active Release Technique

Active Release Technique (ART) is a soft tissue method that focuses on relieving tissue tension via the removal of fibrosis/adhesion that develops in tissue. It is usually used in treating adhesions, scarring or overused muscles. During ART a practitioner will break up or remove the fibrous adhesions using pressure and a stretching motion with their hands. ART is used to lessen tightness and increase mobility and blood flow to the muscles.

Kinesio/Rock Taping

Kinesio/Rock Taping is a rehabilitative taping technique that is designed to facilitate the body’s natural healing process. This technique helps the body recover while providing support and stability to muscles and joints without restricting the body’s range of motion. It also provides extended soft tissue manipulation to prolong the benefits of manual therapy administered within the clinical setting.

Dry Needling

Dry needling is a treatment that involves a very thin needle used to stimulate a muscular trigger point. A “twitch” response from the muscle often occurs when a needle is inserted into a trigger point which allows the muscle to relax. Dry needling is used to stimulate the body’s self-healing mechanisms for tissue repair, reduce muscle tension, decrease pain and improve ranges of motion and function.

Joint Injury Treatment

The muscles and the fascia surrounding either side of the joint are released using a combination of hands-on massage techniques. The joint is then mobilized after breaking up congestion and increasing its range of motion. It will then be reset back to its proper functional position. The joints available for this treatment include the knee through the toes and the elbow through the fingers.

SFMA (Selective Functional Movement Assessment)

SFMA is a comprehensive assessment used to classify movement patterns in effort to direct manual therapy and therapeutic exercise. When injuries occur, pain alters movement patterns in a unpredictable manner. Sometimes muscles contract to provide short term support and sometimes muscles turn off and need reactivated through therapeutic exercise. The only way to truly know which functional movement patterns have been compromised and whether it’s due to a lack of mobility or a lack of muscle activation, is to assess it.
